Plain-language glossary

Messenger & crypto terms, explained simply

Every important term around Lemniscate — encryption, calls, tokens — in plain language, no jargon required.

End-to-end encryption (E2EE)

Only the sender and the recipient can read a message; servers in between only ever carry unreadable ciphertext. In Lemniscate this is always on for every private chat — it is never a paid feature.

Post-quantum cryptography

Encryption designed to withstand attacks by future quantum computers, which could break today's classic key exchange. The goal is to protect messages recorded now from being decrypted later.

ML-KEM-1024

A NIST-standardized post-quantum key encapsulation mechanism at the highest security level (Level 5). Lemniscate combines it with classic elliptic-curve keys into hybrid encryption — an attacker would have to break both at once.

Sealed sender (hidden sender)

The message envelope carries no sender identity, so the server delivering it cannot see who sent it — only the recipient can, after decrypting.

12-word recovery phrase

A human-readable backup of your keys. It is generated on your device, never leaves it, and is the only way to restore your account — there is no password reset, because we never see your keys.

Non-custodial wallet

A wallet whose keys exist only on your device. No company — including us — can move, freeze or access your funds. Every Lemniscate account gets one automatically, with no browser extension.

LMNS

The native token of the Lemniscate chain. It pays for optional extras like Premium, webinar seats, gifts and creator payouts — chatting and calling stay free. How to buy →

LRC-20

The token standard of the Lemniscate chain — EVM-compatible, comparable to ERC-20 on Ethereum. Tokens, balances and transfers follow the same rules developers already know.

Lemniscate chain

Lemniscate's own EVM mainnet with chain ID 800000, a public block explorer and the LRC-20 token standard. External RPC access opens when the presale ends. Open the explorer →

Block explorer

A public website that shows blocks, transactions and balances of a blockchain in real time — so anyone can verify what happens on-chain.

Presale

The early sale phase in which LMNS can be bought at a fixed price directly in the messenger, before the token is listed on an exchange. Nothing on this site is investment advice or an offer of securities.

KYC

“Know Your Customer” — a one-time identity check that is legally required before buying LMNS. Chatting never requires KYC.

Peer-to-peer (P2P)

1:1 call audio and video flow directly from device to device whenever the network allows it — not through a server, and nothing is stored.

TURN relay

A self-hosted fallback server that forwards encrypted call traffic when firewalls or mobile networks block a direct connection — so calls work almost everywhere.

SFU

“Selective Forwarding Unit” — a media server for group calls. Every participant sends their video once; the SFU distributes it to everyone else, which keeps large calls smooth on normal connections.

Webinar

A live event inside the messenger with a public link: a stage for hosts and speakers, while viewers can watch without an account — including green screen, recording and stage chat.

Multi-device sync

Linked devices (phone, browser, desktop) share chats, contacts and read states — synchronized end-to-end encrypted, so every device shows the same state.

Offline mesh

A beta mode in which nearby devices relay messages via Bluetooth when there is no internet — they sync once you are back online.

OTA update

“Over the air” — the app updates itself directly, without waiting for an app store release. Fixes reach every platform at the same time.

PWA

“Progressive Web App” — the messenger runs in the browser and can be installed like a native app, with no store required and nothing to download first.

On-device translation

Incoming messages are translated into your language directly on your device — the text is never sent to any cloud.
